Published in 1841, La Saint-Hubert - 6 Fanfares en Trio is a lighthearted collection of works for horn trio based on popular melodies of the time. The title of the collection is a reference to the patron saint of horn players, Saint Hubert, an ardent hunter who was thought to have seen a vision of a crucifix in the antlers of a stag he was pursuing. Despite the reference to the horn’s hunting origins, the majority of the works in this collection are not overtly ‘trompe de chasse’ in style.
